Basic Pruning- February 2025

Date:  Saturday, February 22, 2025 from 10am to 2:30pm 

Instructor:  Ed Davis, Assistant Director, UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens

Description: Informed and well-timed pruning can improve woody plant health, improve plant shape, boost flower and fruit yield, and even give a poorly-performing plant an invigorating boost! 

Learn the basics in the classroom, including: benefits of pruning, timing (when to prune different groups of plants), proper technique to assure new bud formation and limit damage and disease, and a review of tool selection.  Then join Ed in the Botanical Gardens to experience hands on learning by pruning woody plants here in our own gardens! 

This class is suitable for beginners as well as experienced gardeners who want to learn more about pruning under the direction of a Horticultural expert. 

Location: McMillan Greenhouse classroom, 9090 Craver Road, Charlotte
Cost: $65 ($60 for Botanical Gardens Members)

CNPS credits: 4 hours
