Fungi are present all around us as microscopic threads and single cells that do an enormous amount of important work, only rarely forming the large mushroom structures that we most associate with this kingdom of life. From degrading dead organisms, to feeding tree roots, to causing diseases, fungi are both friends and foes to plants and people. In this class, we will go beyond the button mushrooms in the grocery store to understand how prevalent and impactful fungi truly are. We will explore the diversity of fungi, touching briefly on identification while focusing more broadly on the basics and roles of these funky organisms.
Location: UNC Charlotte Main Campus - McMillan Greenhouse
Cost: $45
Parking: During the week you must park in our visitor decks. Park in East Deck #1. Parking is free on the weekends. We still recommend parking in East Deck #1. If you park in an open lot through the week you will receive a fine of $85 from the university. We do have very limited free parking spots in front of the Greenhouse, but those fill up quickly.
