Fungi Friends and Foes
3 hours CNPS credit
Instructor: Dr. Morgan Carter - Assistant Professor in the Klein College of Science at UNC Charlotte
Class Date: Saturday, March 29, 2025 from 9am to 12pm
Class Description: Fungi are present all around us as microscopic threads and single cells that do an enormous amount of important work, only rarely forming the large mushroom structures that we most associate with this kingdom of life. From degrading dead organisms, to feeding tree roots, to causing diseases, fungi are both friends and foes to plants and people. In this class, we will go beyond the button mushrooms in the grocery store to understand how prevalent and impactful fungi truly are. We will explore the diversity of fungi, touching briefly on identification while focusing more broadly on the basics and roles of these funky organisms.
Location: McMillan Greenhouse (9090 Craver Road, Charlotte, NC)
