Basic Ecology: An introduction Ecology examines how organisms interact with each other and their physical environments. In the classroom setting, students will learn about basic ecological concepts relating to plants, animals, and the environment, and how all of these influence and interact with one another. The course will meet 4 times for 3 hours each. As preparation for the course, students are encouraged to read one or both of these books by Doug Tallamy— Bringing Nature Home and Nature’s Best Hope. By reading these books, students will get a bit of a “setting” for the ecological concepts that we will explore in the course.
