Instructor: Ed is the former assistant director of the UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens. He received his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree at the University of Georgia and his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting from UNC Charlotte. Ed worked as a garden designer in Savannah, GA and Charlotte for over 35 years before joining the staff at the UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens. His work at the gardens began when he was selected to be the lead designer and construction coordinator for the Mellichamp Natives Terrace.
Class Date: This class meets once on the following day:
Informed and well-timed pruning can improve woody plant health, improve plant shape, boost flower and fruit yield, and even give a poorly-performing plant an invigorating boost!
Learn the basics in the classroom, including: benefits of pruning, timing (when to prune different groups of plants), proper technique to assure new bud formation and limit damage and disease, and a review of tool selection. Then join Ed in the Botanical Gardens to experience hands-on learning by pruning woody plants here in our own gardens!
*This class is suitable for beginners as well as experienced gardeners who want to learn more about pruning under the direction of a Horticultural expert

Cost: $65
Parking: During the week you must park in our visitor decks. Park in East Deck #1. Parking is free on the weekends. We still recommend parking in East Deck #1. If you park in an open lot through the week you will receive a fine of $85 from the university. We do have very limited parking spots in front of the Greenhouse, but those fill up quickly.
